Cleveland to Honor Dazz Band with New Street Designation
A stretch of Lotus Drive in the Kinsman neighborhood will soon carry a new honorary name to recognize the musical legacy of the Dazz Band. Cleveland City Council has passed Ord. No. 879-2026, an emergency ordinance that designates the section of Lotus Drive between Lee Road and East 160th Street as "Dazz Band Way."
The designation honors the influential ensemble founded by Cleveland native Bobby Harris Dazz Band. The group holds a significant place in the city's cultural history as the first Cleveland-based act to win a Grammy Award for Best Performance by an R&B Group or Duo, receiving the honor in 1983 for the song "Let It Whip" Dazz Band | Spotify. The band's historical roots are closely tied to the local Kinsman area dazz band - cleveland.com.
