Cleveland Considers Professional Services for Employee Leave Administration
The City of Cleveland is considering a new measure to assist with the management of employee benefits. An emergency ordinance, identified as File No. 752-2026, would allow the Director of Human Resources to hire one or more professional consultants to manage Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) benefits for city employees. This proposal aims to provide specialized administrative support for leave requests for an initial period of one year, with the option to renew the contract for up to three additional one-year terms.
The request for professional services is directed toward the Human Resources Department, which oversees various employee services and policies. Detailed documentation regarding the specific professional services requested can be found in the 752-2026-PL-HR-FMLA Administration Services and 752-2026-Prof Srv to administer employee's FMLA leave files. While several other emergency ordinances and resolutions were recently passed by City Council around mid-July 2026, this specific file remains under review.
Currently, the ordinance is in the Administrative Review stage within the City Council committee process. Residents can monitor upcoming City Council meetings and official legislative updates to see when the ordinance moves toward a final vote.
