Cleveland Supports Grant Application for Irishtown Bend Restoration

Cleveland City Council has passed an emergency resolution to back a major green space project at Irishtown Bend. Through Resolution No. 733-2026, the city is officially supporting the West Creek Conservancy’s application for a Clean Ohio Green Space FY27 Grant, which will be submitted to the Ohio Public Works Commission. This funding is intended to move the Irishtown Bend Restoration Phase II Project forward, focusing on significant improvements to the area's natural landscape and accessibility.

According to 733-2026 Davis - Resolution supporting Irishtown Bend Clean Ohio Green Space Grant, the grant would fund park improvements such as the construction of a 25-acre riverfront park and a new trail designed to connect the Towpath Trail directly to the lakefront. The West Creek Conservancy, which works as an urban land conservancy and watershed organization in Northern Ohio West Creek Conservancy | Cleveland OH | Facebook, is leading the application process. The resolution was referred to the Committee on Finance, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion during its legislative process.

The emergency resolution has officially passed. Residents can watch for updates regarding the Ohio Public Works Commission's decision on the grant application to see if the proposed trail and park expansions receive the necessary state funding.
