New Community Programming and Tennis Sessions Coming to Cleveland Facilities

Cleveland residents can look forward to expanded educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities through a new agreement between the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Neighborhood Leadership Institute. This partnership, authorized by emergency ordinance 617-2026, will bring various community-focused initiatives to several city school buildings and neighborhood facilities from June 2026 through May 2027. The initiative is designed to serve a wide age range, targeting youth and families between 10 and 65 years old.

The agreement allocates $453,846.22 to fund three specific program areas: the "Schools as a Neighborhood Resource" (SNR) program ($343,224), the Summer Tennis Program ($46,982.22), and Youth Leadership Cleveland ($63,640), according to the 617-2026-Legislative Summary-2026 NLI. The SNR program offers no-cost, 16-week workshops at locations including Collinwood, Johns Adams High School, Artemus Ward, Lincoln West, James Rhodes, and Sunbeam. Additionally, the Summer Tennis Program runs from June 8 through July 31, 2026, focusing on skill-building and mentorship. For those interested in leadership development, the Youth Leadership Cleveland program will hold 15 sessions at various neighborhood sites such as Frederick Douglass, Harmody Park, Rockefeller Park, and several others. The Neighborhood Leadership Institute is a local nonprofit focused on developing grassroots leaders to improve community quality of life.

The ordinance has officially passed. Residents interested in participating in the SNR programs are asked to complete a registration form that includes basic demographic and income information.
