New Pump Station and Tank Planned for Pleasant Valley Road

Cleveland Water is preparing to modernize critical infrastructure in the southwest portion of its distribution system by replacing the aging Pleasant Valley Road Station. Through Emergency Ordinance No. 601-2026, the city is moving forward with a plan to construct a new pump station and a ground-level tank to replace the existing 1950s-era facilities. This project serves the Third High Service District, providing water to portions of Parma, North Royalton, Broadview Heights, Brecksville, Hinckley, Richfield, Richfield Township, and Bath.

The upgrade is necessary because the current station's pumps and electrical equipment have reached the end of their useful life. According to the 601-2026 Legislative Summary, the existing five million gallon underground concrete reservoir is at too low of an elevation, making it energy inefficient and difficult to operate. The new design will feature a five million gallon above-ground tank at a higher elevation to improve efficiency. The project's estimated cost is $15,000,000, which includes approximately $2,000,000 for design services and $13,000,000 for construction. These improvements will be managed by the Department of Public Utilities, which oversees city-owned utilities Department of Public Utilities | City of Cleveland Ohio.

The ordinance has passed City Council, and construction is expected to last approximately two years. Residents can watch for future updates regarding the commencement of contract bidding for professional services and public improvement work.
