Cleveland to Expand Reproductive Health Services Through State Grant

The Cleveland Department of Public Health is set to expand its reproductive health services and clinic availability through a new grant program. City Council has passed emergency ordinance 592-2026, which allows the Director of Public Health to apply for and accept $417,000 per year from the Ohio Department of Health to fund the Title X Program. This initiative aims to support the well-being of women, men, and children by increasing access to healthcare, promoting healthy lifestyles, and assisting with reproductive life planning, particularly for low-income and underserved populations in the city.

According to the 592-2026-A File & Legislative Summary, the funding will allow the department to increase Reproductive Health Clinic hours and offer a wider range of services, including preconception counseling and natural family planning education. The department has already expanded lab services to provide more comprehensive testing within these clinics. To implement the program, the director is authorized to enter into agreements with various entities, such as The MetroHealth System, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, and providers like E-Clinical Works and UpToDate. The program also utilizes mobile health units and weekly urine-based testing clinics at City of Cleveland Recreation Centers. Current service highlights include evening Teen Wellness Clinics at J. Glen Smith and Blanket Mills, as well as Saturday clinics.
