Cleveland City Council Objects to New Liquor Permit at 24 Public Square

Cleveland City Council has passed an emergency resolution to officially object to a new liquor permit application for the Hotel Cleveland, located at 24 Public Square. The legislation, identified as Res. No. 580-2026, was introduced by Council Member Starr following notification from the Division of Liquor Control regarding a D5A permit application for Coury Hospitality, LLC, doing business as Hotel Cleveland (Permit Number 10014805-1). Hotel Cleveland is a central downtown venue that features various event spaces and is located near major city landmarks.

According to the official resolution text, Council members raised several concerns regarding the permit. The document states that the granting of the permit would be contrary to the community's best interests due to the area's existing saturation of liquor outlets and its classification as a high crime area. Additional grounds for the objection included claims that the applicant may not qualify as a permit holder, that the premises might not meet building, safety, or health requirements, and that the location could interfere with public peace, decency, or good order. As part of this emergency measure, the Clerk of Council is directed to transmit certified copies of the objection to the Superintendent of Liquor Control and to request that a formal hearing be held within Cleveland, Cuyahoga County.

The emergency resolution has passed and is now in effect. Residents can watch for updates regarding the requested hearing, which must be scheduled by the Superintendent of Liquor Control in accordance with Section 4303.26 of the Ohio Revised Code.
