Cleveland to Contract for Maintenance of Six Moveable Bridges

Cleveland is moving forward with a plan to ensure the continued upkeep of several key moveable bridges across the city. Through the passage of emergency ordinance 467-2026, the Department of Public Works is authorized to secure requirement contracts for essential maintenance, lubrication, and structural repairs. These services will support the Division of Streets in managing the mechanical fittings, cables, and machinery required to keep six specific bridges operational for the city's residents and commuters.

According to the 467-2026-Legislative Summary-Bridge Lubricants (2), the work will focus on the Carter Road Lift Bridge, the Center Street Swing Bridge, the Columbus Road Lift Bridge, the West 3rd Street Lift Bridge, the Willow Avenue Lift Bridge, and the North Coast Harbor Bridge. The contract aims to provide necessary labor, equipment, and materials—such as lubricants and millwright services—following schedules compliant with the American Association of Highway and Transportation Officials. The estimated cost for these services is $400,000 per year, funded through the operating budget, restricted income tax, NEF funds, and other sources determined by the Director of Finance. This new arrangement includes an initial one-year term with two optional one-year renewals at the discretion of the Director of Public Works.
