New Site Approved for Cleveland Fire Station No. 23

Cleveland is moving forward with plans to build a new home for Fire Station No. 23, located at the northeast corner of Madison Avenue and West Boulevard. Through the passage of emergency ordinance 368-2026, the city has authorized the Mayor and the Commissioner of Purchases and Supplies to acquire the property at 10022 Madison Avenue for the Department of Public Safety. This acquisition is intended to provide the necessary site control to begin development of the new facility, which will replace the current station at 9826 Madison Avenue.

According to the 368-2026-LEGISLATIVE SUMMARY, the city will purchase the 0.88-acre site from Shaker Madison LLC for an appraised value of $635,000. The new location is nearly twice the size of the existing 0.45-acre station property. This increased space is designed to improve emergency response times by allowing for a "pull-through" design, where fire apparatus can exit onto Madison Avenue more efficiently rather than having to back in from the street. The new building will also feature distinct zones for living quarters, an apparatus bay, and a decontamination area. The city plans to demolish the existing vacant retail structure currently on the lot to make way for the construction. This project is located in Ward 11, represented by Councilman Tanmay Shah.

The ordinance has officially passed. As the city moves from land acquisition toward construction, residents can watch for upcoming updates regarding the demolition of the current structure and the start of building operations for the Cleveland Division of Fire.
