New Funding Approved for Cleveland Youth After-School Programs

Cleveland is expanding its efforts to provide enrichment opportunities for local students through a new partnership with After-School All-Stars. City Council has passed emergency legislation, Ord. No. 354-2026, which allows the Director of Finance to contract with the organization to provide activities under the city’s Out of School Time Program. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Mayor’s Office of Prevention, Intervention and Opportunity to offer community-centered programming that addresses social determinants of health and violence prevention.

According to the 354-2026 -Legislative Summary- ASAS, the contract is set for an initial one-year term at a cost not to exceed $240,167, with two additional one-year options to renew. The program will operate at two sites across four seasons, serving up to 30 participants per site from grades 1 through 12. Students can expect three hours of programming per day, four days a week, including activities such as tutoring, arts, field trips, and sports. After-School All-Stars has a history of operating in several Neighborhood Resource and Recreation Centers in Cleveland since 2018, and their local chapter aims to provide free, comprehensive support to empower community students After-School All-Stars Cleveland (@ASASCleveland).

The ordinance has officially passed, moving the project into the implementation phase. Residents can watch for upcoming schedules regarding specific site locations and enrollment details as the Mayor's Office of Prevention, Intervention and Opportunity begins coordinating these expanded services.
