New Traffic Information Systems Coming to I-90 and SR-176

Cleveland is moving forward with plans to improve traffic communication and safety along major local routes. City Council has passed emergency ordinance 353-2026, which grants the City of Cleveland permission to work with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to install new technology on I-90 and SR-176. This project includes the installation of a Dynamic Message System, a Queue Warning System Lite, and queue detection cameras, along with the necessary infrastructure to support them at various locations throughout the city.

The ordinance allows the city to accept necessary grants and gifts to fund these improvements and provides the authority to acquire and record the rights-of-way needed for the equipment. The installation of these systems is part of a collaborative effort with the Director of Transportation for the State of Ohio. These upgrades are designed to provide real-time information to drivers regarding traffic conditions and potential backups. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the state agency manages all Interstates and state roadways, including the infrastructure being updated here.
