City to Install New Speed Tables for Traffic Calming and Pedestrian Safety

Cleveland is moving forward with a citywide plan to improve pedestrian safety and manage traffic flow through the installation and repair of various speed tables. Passed as an emergency measure under File No. 1406-2025, this ordinance allows the Director of Public Works to enter into contracts to carry out these public improvements. The project is designed to implement traffic-calming measures across the city to enhance safety for people walking in residential and high-traffic areas.

According to the 1406-2025-Legislative Summary-Speed Tables, the estimated cost for these improvements is $1,105,000 per year, with the authority to execute agreements for a period not to exceed two years. Funding for the project is drawn from several sources, including $400,000 from ARPA (C24708) and specific allocations for various wards: Ward 6 ($124,320), Ward 12 ($230,880), Ward 14 ($213,120), Ward 15 ($39,000), and Ward 16 ($97,680). The Department of Public Works, which manages city street maintenance and infrastructure, will oversee the implementation of these requirement contracts.
