New Fund Proposed for Slavic Village Community Development

The City of Cleveland is considering a plan to boost economic and community growth in the Slavic Village neighborhood through a new partnership with The Cleveland Foundation. Under the proposed emergency ordinance, known as File No. 530-2025, the Director of Economic Development would enter into an agreement to establish the Slavic Village Neighborhood Development Fund. This fund is designed to provide grants to nonprofit organizations and programs that serve Cleveland residents, specifically targeting neighborhood improvements, predevelopment costs, and gap financing for local projects.

According to 530-2025-A-FILE-K, the fund would be managed as a donor-advised fund by The Cleveland Foundation, which works to address community needs through grantmaking Source Name. An Advisory Committee would oversee the fund's recommendations, consisting of five members: one appointed by the Executive Director of the Third Federal Foundation, one appointed by the CEO of The Cleveland Foundation, one local business owner from Slavic Village, and two current residents of the neighborhood. The document specifies that no elected officials will be appointed to this committee.
